Planning to Retire or Buy A Second Home You Need To Know About Real Estate in the Myrtle Beach Area

Property Taxes

Property taxes in North Carolina’s Brunswick County are the same for Residents and Non-Residents, but in South Carolina’s Horry County there is a big difference with Residents paying much less than Non-Residents. To be classified as a Resident you must go to one of the County offices, complete a form, and provide proof according to requirements. (No matter how long you have lived in Horry County, if you purchase a new residence you must complete the Resident form to receive the lower tax rate).

Weather in the Myrtle Beach Area

The average dailey high temperature in the winter is in the 50s.  We did experience colder than normal during 2009 and 2010 but the cold days come and go.  Example:  February 23, 2010 it was 63°

When you think about making a purchase in the coastal Carolina’s the weather may be the determining factor. Semi-tropical but with an actual four season climate make this place perfect. With years between a dusting of snow that melts in a blink of your eye, the Winter season that requires looking for a jacket is gone in a few weeks. Spring, in all its blooming glory, is here for several months. It gets hot in the Summer, but no worse then the summers of the northeastern US the difference is we can go to the ocean.  Fall brings the colorful leaves that those from the North thought they would never see again.   Storms are the same here as anywhere and if you have a concern about a hurricane, remember it has been twenty years since a hurricane did major damage in Myrtle Beach and the weather service tells us days in advance if one may come in our direction.

Living In The Myrtle Beach Area

Utility bills seem to be much lower in the Myrtle Beach area.  Gas prices are normally below the national average.  The cost of clothing can be less depending on where you shop and if you feel that you need cold weather wear for the few weeks of cold weather we normally experience.  There are so many restaurants in every price range you will probably never get to visit all of them and those who visit you will not be lacking in area events or attracktions.  Did I mention the ability to take a walk on the beach or fish from the shore, pier, or boat.  Yes, you can have full time R and R.
