You may be searching for a "retirement community" and I will provide a list below, but before you limit your search you should know that the majority of housing developments in the Myrtle Beach area that have been built in the past fifteen years are occupied by retirees.  Many communities, like Tidewater Plantation in North Myrtle Beach, offer as much or more activities, trips, and social events as the typical retirement community.

Jobs In The Myrtle Beach Area:
The Grand Strand or Myrtle Beach area is not the best place for the young professional who wants a high paying job.  It is a place where retirees can usually find work if they want to supplement their income or live comfortably on their retirement income. 

Hospitals In The Myrtle Beach Area:

Myrtle Beach has Grand Strand Regiona Medical Center has an expansion and renovation in progress which should be complete around the end of 2012.  They also plan to have Level II trauma services.

North Myrtle Beach has Seacoast Medical Center that is primarily a testing and emergency facility but will have a few beds available in the near future.

Murrells Inlet has Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Georgetown has the Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Loris has the Loris Community Hospital. 

Average Temperatures in the Myrtle Beach Area:

Average high temperatures:  Jan - 56°, Feb - 59°, Mar - 66°, Apr - 74°, May - 80°, June - 86°, July - 90°, Aug - 88°, Sept - 84°, Oct - 76°, Nov 68°, and Dec - 59°.  The winters of 2009 and 2010 have seen colder than normal temperatures but for example on February 21, 2010 the temperature was 63°.

Average Income and Age Of Residents:
The median cost of a new home is $192,000 and the average electric bill is $150 per month.  The median age of residents is 48 years.


The over 55 Years of age communities are:

Prince Creek, Centre Pointe, Lakeside Crossing, and manufactured homes on leased land Jensen's communities of Ocean Pines and Country Lakes.  Bus service and condo living can be found at Covenant Towers.
